In 2011, Bengal voted for poriborton (change) and ended 34 years of Left rule. Fifteen years later, on 4 May 2026, it voted for change again. The BJP won 208 of 294 seats, Mamata Banerjee lost her own seat in Bhabanipur, and Suvendu Adhikari became Bengal’s first BJP Chief Minister.
The Second Poriborton tells the story between those two dates. It uses court orders, investigating-agency actions, election results and established news reports. It does not use rumours.
Inside you’ll find:
• How TMC came to power: Singur, Nandigram and the promises of 2011
• The scams: Saradha, Narada, and the school jobs case in which the Supreme Court upheld the cancellation of 25,753 appointments
• Elections under fear: uncontested seats in 2018, post-poll violence in 2021, and polling-day deaths in 2023
• Sandeshkhali and the RG Kar case
• The economy: debt, jobs, and young people leaving the state
• What TMC says about its own record: Kanyashree, Lakshmir Bhandar, Swasthya Sathi
• The 2026 verdict: the numbers, and why Bengal changed its mind
• The new government’s first decisions and first 100 days
• The open questions the new government must answer
• A 15-year timeline, a citizen’s scorecard, and a full list of sources
Fair and factual: the book separates arrested from convicted, explains why critics used the term “jungle raj”, and gives TMC’s side wherever it applies. You decide.
Facts are current to October 2026.
